Anterior Tibialis
The anterior tibialis is a muscle located at the front of the lower leg. It primarily helps lift the foot upward (dorsiflexion) and assists in controlling its downward movement. This muscle also supports the arch of the foot during walking and running. It is essential for clear foot lift-off when walking and helps prevent the foot from slapping the ground. Strengthening and maintaining the health of the anterior tibialis are important for proper gait and to avoid injuries like shin splints or foot drop.
