Anschluss
Anschluss refers to the annexation of Austria into Nazi Germany in March 1938. This event was marked by the unification of the two countries under German rule, driven by the ideologies of nationalism and expansionism promoted by Adolf Hitler. The move was largely welcomed by many Austrians who shared cultural and ethnic ties with Germany. However, it violated the Treaty of Versailles, which had prohibited such unification. The Anschluss is often seen as a pivotal moment leading up to World War II, showcasing the aggressive ambitions of the Nazi regime and its disregard for international agreements.
