Anne Hyde was a 17th-century English noblewoman, best known as the first wife of King James II of England and Scotland. Born in 1637, she was the daughter of the Earl of Clarendon. Anne was known for her intelligence and charm, and her marriage to James helped strengthen royal alliances. She became pregnant several times, but most of her children did not survive infancy. Her relationship with James was initially private but later became more prominent as her influence grew. She played a significant role at court until her death in 1671, and her life connected her to important political and royal developments of her time.
