Ankle syndesmosis

Ankle syndesmosis is the joint where the two long bones of the lower leg, the tibia and fibula, connect just above the ankle using strong connective tissue called ligaments. This ligament allows slight movement and helps stabilize the ankle during activities like walking or running. When this ligament is injured or torn, typically from twisting or trauma, it causes pain, swelling, and difficulty moving the ankle, often requiring treatment to allow proper healing. Proper diagnosis and management are essential to restore stability and prevent long-term problems.
