anemones

Anemones are marine animals related to corals and jellyfish, belonging to the phylum Cnidaria. They have soft, colorful bodies with a central mouth surrounded by numerous tentacles that contain stinging cells for capturing prey and defense. These tentacles can also help anemones attach to rocks or other surfaces in their underwater environment. Anemones are usually anchored to the ocean floor or submerged objects and can range in size from a few centimeters to over a meter. They are predatory, feeding on small fish and invertebrates, and often form symbiotic relationships with clownfish, which gain protection within their tentacles.
