Andromeda
Andromeda is a spiral galaxy located about 2.537 million light-years from Earth, making it the nearest major galaxy to our Milky Way. It's named after the princess in Greek mythology and can be seen from Earth with the naked eye on clear nights. Andromeda contains over a trillion stars and is larger than the Milky Way. It plays a significant role in the study of the universe, as it is on a collision course with our galaxy, expected to merge in about 4.5 billion years. This event will change the structure of both galaxies significantly.
