Ancient Puebloan History

The Ancient Puebloans, also known as Ancestral Puebloans or Anasazi, were a Native American culture that thrived in the Southwestern United States, particularly in present-day Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah. From around 100 AD to 1300 AD, they developed sophisticated adobe and stone villages, known for their unique cliff dwellings and pueblos. They practiced agriculture, relying on corn, beans, and squash, and had advanced architectural and social systems. Their decline is attributed to factors like drought and resource depletion. Today, their descendants are part of many contemporary Pueblo tribes, preserving their rich history and culture.
