Ancient Ethiopian Script

Ancient Ethiopian script, primarily the Ge'ez script, is a writing system originating from Ethiopia, used for languages like Ge'ez and Amharic. It is a script of syllabic characters, where each symbol represents a consonant-vowel combination. Similar in structure to other Semitic scripts, Ge'ez evolved from South Arabian scripts around the 5th century CE. Historically, it served religious, administrative, and literary purposes, and remains the basis for modern Ethiopian scripts. Its unique characters reflect Ethiopia’s rich cultural and historical identity, showcasing a linguistic tradition that has persisted for over a millennium.
