Anatomy of the knee

The knee is a complex joint connecting the thigh bone (femur) to the shin bone (tibia). It contains cartilage that cushions the bones, allowing smooth movement. Thick bands called ligaments stabilize the joint, while tendons connect muscles to bones, aiding movement. The kneecap (patella) protects the joint front and improves leverage for leg muscles. Inside the joint, paired menisci act as shock absorbers, distributing weight evenly. Overall, the knee enables bending, straightening, and supporting weight during activities like walking, running, and jumping.
