An-sky (S. An-sky)

An-Sky, born Solomon Simonovich An-sky (1863–1920), was a notable Jewish writer, ethnographer, and playwright from Ukraine. He is best known for his work in collecting and preserving Jewish folklore, music, and traditions, particularly through his famous Yiddish play "The Dybbuk." This play, which explores themes of love and mysticism, remains a cornerstone of Jewish theater. An-Sky also embarked on expeditions to document Jewish life in Eastern Europe, contributing significantly to cultural preservation. His efforts highlighted the richness of Jewish heritage during a time of significant change and upheaval in the region.
