AMS (Altitude Mountain Sickness)
Altitude Mountain Sickness (AMS) occurs when people ascend to high altitudes too quickly, typically above 8,000 feet (2,400 meters). At these elevations, the air pressure and oxygen levels drop, which can lead to symptoms like headaches, nausea, fatigue, and difficulty sleeping. The body needs time to adjust to reduced oxygen levels, and if this adjustment does not happen, AMS can occur. To prevent AMS, it's important to acclimatize by ascending gradually, staying hydrated, and avoiding strenuous activity until your body adapts to the altitude. Severe cases can lead to more serious conditions, so awareness is key.
