Amphitheatre of Pompeii

The Amphitheatre of Pompeii is an ancient Roman arena built around 70 BCE, located in the ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii in Italy. It is one of the oldest surviving Roman amphitheatres and could hold about 20,000 spectators. Designed for public entertainment, it hosted gladiatorial combat, animal fights, and other spectacles. Its elliptical shape and sturdy stone construction demonstrate advanced Roman engineering. Preserved remarkably well after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE, it offers valuable insights into Roman culture and entertainment practices. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage site and popular archaeological attraction.
