Amniotic band syndrome

Amniotic band syndrome is a condition that occurs during pregnancy when strands of the amniotic sac, which surrounds the fetus, break and form bands. These bands can wrap around parts of the developing baby, such as limbs, fingers, or toes, restricting growth and leading to deformities or even amputations. The exact cause is unknown, and it does not typically spread from mother to baby. While the severity varies, some babies may have minor issues, and others may experience more significant physical differences. Treatment depends on the specific conditions and may involve surgery after birth.
