ammonia (NH3)
Ammonia (NH₃) is a colorless, pungent gas composed of one nitrogen atom bonded to three hydrogen atoms. It is naturally produced in the environment and used widely in agriculture as a nitrogen-rich fertilizer to promote plant growth. Ammonia is also used in industrial processes, cleaning products, and refrigeration. It readily dissolves in water, forming a solution called aqueous ammonia, which is alkaline. Due to its strong smell and potential health hazards, handling ammonia requires caution. Despite its hazards in concentrated form, it plays a vital role in supporting agriculture and various industrial applications.
