AMD (Age-related Macular Degeneration)
Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is a common eye condition that primarily affects the central part of the retina called the macula, which is responsible for detailed vision. As people age, abnormal changes can damage the macula, leading to a gradual loss of sharp, straight-ahead vision. This can make activities like reading, recognizing faces, or seeing fine details difficult. AMD typically progresses slowly and is more common in older adults. While there's no cure, early detection and treatment can help manage symptoms and slow progression, especially in the early or "dry" form.
