Amazon Cooperation Treaty (ACT)

The Amazon Cooperation Treaty (ACT) is an agreement signed by eight South American countries—Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela—to collaborate on sustainable management, conservation, and development of the Amazon Basin. It aims to promote regional cooperation on issues like environmental protection, scientific research, and sustainable use of natural resources, ensuring the Amazon's ecological health while supporting the livelihoods of local communities. ACT functions through a multilateral mechanism that encourages coordination, sharing of information, and joint initiatives to address challenges such as deforestation, biodiversity loss, and climate change in the Amazon region.
