Alveolar hypoventilation

Alveolar hypoventilation occurs when the lungs do not take in enough air to properly oxygenate the blood and remove carbon dioxide. This can happen due to various reasons, such as weakened respiratory muscles, nerve problems, or certain medical conditions. As a result, blood oxygen levels drop, and carbon dioxide accumulates in the body, which can lead to symptoms like fatigue, shortness of breath, and dizziness. If untreated, it may cause serious complications. Treatment typically addresses the underlying cause and may include breathing support like supplemental oxygen or mechanical ventilation.
