Altiplano
The Altiplano is a high, expansive plateau in the Andes mountains of South America, spanning parts of Bolivia, Peru, Chile, and Argentina. It sits roughly 3,800 to 4,500 meters (12,500 to 14,800 feet) above sea level, making it one of the highest inhabited regions on Earth. The terrain is mostly flat or gently rolling, with some volcanoes and lakes, like Lake Titicaca. The Altiplano supports agriculture, mining, and towns, and its unique climate and geography influence the culture and economy of the area. It’s an important ecological and cultural zone with a mix of high-altitude plains and indigenous communities.
