
Alphonse de Liguori
Alphonse de Liguori (1696-1787) was an Italian priest, theologian, and founder of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, known as the Redemptorists. He is recognized for his significant contributions to Catholic moral theology and his emphasis on God's mercy and love. Liguori authored numerous works, including the popular “The Glories of Mary,” which highlights Marian devotion. He was canonized as a saint in 1839 and declared a Doctor of the Church in 1871, underscoring his influential role in Christian thought and spirituality, particularly in promoting a compassionate approach to faith and morality.
