Almajiri system
The Almajiri system is a traditional Islamic education practice in parts of Nigeria where young boys, often from impoverished families, are sent to study Quran under Islamic teachers called Mallams. Typically, they live away from home, often on the streets or in Quranic schools, and focus on religious studies rather than formal schooling. While it aims to preserve Islamic teachings, the system faces challenges such as lack of proper facilities, integration with modern education, and social support, which can lead to issues like homelessness, lack of formal skills, and vulnerability to exploitation.
