Alma Mahler (Gustav Mahler's wife)

Alma Mahler, born Alma Schindler in 1879, was an influential Austrian composer, socialite, and the wife of renowned composer Gustav Mahler. She was a prominent figure in the early 20th-century art scene, associated with influential artists and intellectuals. Alma also composed her own music and was involved in the careers of her husband and other composers. After Mahler's death in 1911, she married architect Walter Gropius and later writer Franz Werfel. Alma’s life reflected the tensions between personal ambition and the roles of women in a patriarchal society, making her a complex figure in cultural history.
