Allport's Contact Theory

Allport’s Contact Theory suggests that meaningful interactions between groups can reduce prejudice and promote understanding. For contact to be effective, it should occur under certain conditions: equal status, shared goals, cooperation, and support from authorities or norms. When these conditions are met, positive personal relationships develop, stereotypes weaken, and mutual respect increases, leading to less discrimination. Essentially, genuine, well-structured contact helps break down misunderstandings and fears, fostering harmony and improved intergroup relations.
