Allergic Fungal Sinusitis

Allergic Fungal Sinusitis (AFS) is a type of sinus infection caused by an allergic reaction to fungi in the environment. People with AFS typically have chronic sinus symptoms like nasal congestion, pressure, and discharge, often accompanied by asthma or allergies. Unlike other sinus infections, AFS involves an immune response to mold, leading to inflammation and the formation of thick mucus. Treatment usually includes medications to reduce inflammation and, in some cases, surgery to clear blocked sinuses. Managing allergies is also important to prevent recurrence of the condition.
