Alfonso Cano
Alfonso Cano, born Guillermo León Sáenz Vargas in 1948, was a Colombian guerrilla leader and the longtime head of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), a Marxist guerrilla group. FARC sought to promote social equality through armed rebellion against the government, often engaging in guerrilla warfare, kidnapping, and drug trafficking. Cano became the leader in 2011 after the death of his predecessor. His leadership marked a period of intensified conflict before he was killed in a military operation in 2011. His life and actions significantly impacted Colombia's ongoing struggle with insurgency and peace efforts.
