Alexander Mackenzie was a Canadian explorer born in 1764, renowned for being the first person to cross North America from east to west. In 1793, he reached the Pacific Ocean via the Bella Coola River, paving the way for future exploration and trade routes. His journeys contributed significantly to the understanding of Canada’s geography and indigenous cultures. Mackenzie also played a role in the fur trade, helping to establish the North West Company. His legacy is remembered as a key figure in Canada’s exploration history and the development of its frontier regions. Mackenzie died in 1820.
