Alesia (ancient settlement)

Alesia was an ancient settlement located in what is now France, famous for the Battle of Alesia in 52 BCE. It was a fortified Gallic stronghold where Julius Caesar's Roman army besieged the Gallic leader Vercingetorix. The site featured impressive earthworks, including a double wall system with defenses and siege ramparts. The victory at Alesia was a turning point that helped Rome conquer Gaul. Today, the remains of Alesia provide valuable archaeological insights into Roman military engineering and ancient Gallic civilization.
