ALC-0315
ALC-0315 is a specially designed lipid (fat molecule) used in some COVID-19 vaccines, like Pfizer-BioNTech’s, to help carry the vaccine's genetic instructions into human cells. Since these instructions are made of mRNA, which can be easily broken down in the body, ALC-0315 forms tiny lipid nanoparticles that protect the message and assist in delivering it efficiently to cells. Once inside, the cells use the instructions to produce a harmless piece of the virus, prompting the immune system to recognize and respond, providing protection against COVID-19.
