Alberta Oilsands
Alberta Oilsands are large deposits of unconventional crude oil embedded in sand, clay, and water in northern Alberta, Canada. Extracting this bitumen requires energy-intensive processes such as mining or in-situ techniques like steam-assisted gravity drainage. Once recovered, the bitumen is upgraded into synthetic crude oil that can be refined into gasoline, diesel, and other petroleum products. While they are a significant energy resource, oilsands development raises environmental concerns, including greenhouse gas emissions, habitat disturbance, and water usage, prompting ongoing debates about balancing economic benefits with ecological responsibility.
