Aksum Obelisk
The Aksum Obelisk is an ancient, tall stone monument from Ethiopia, built by the Kingdom of Aksum around the 4th century AD. It served as a funerary monument or marker for important individuals, symbolizing their status and grandeur. Carved from a single piece of granite, these obelisks feature intricate inscriptions and designs, standing as remarkable examples of early African engineering and artistry. The most famous one, the obelisk of Axum, was taken to Italy in the 1930s but returned to Ethiopia in 2005. It remains a significant cultural and historical symbol of Ethiopia’s rich heritage.
