Ainsworth's attachment classifications
Ainsworth's attachment classifications describe how children relate to their caregivers based on their early interactions. Securely attached children feel confident their caregiver will meet their needs and are comfortable exploring, but seek comfort when upset. Insecure attachment can be of two main types: avoidant, where children seem independent and don't seek comfort, and anxious-ambivalent, where children are anxious and clingy, worried their needs won't be met. These patterns develop from the caregiver's consistency and responsiveness, shaping how children trust and connect with others throughout life.
