
Aigai (Aegae)
Aigai (or Aegae) was an ancient city in Macedonia, historically notable for being the first capital of the kingdom of Macedon. It is best known as the burial site of several Macedonian kings, including Philip II, the father of Alexander the Great. The city was renowned for its impressive architecture, including the royal tombs and a grand palace. Aigai played a significant role in the early development of Macedonian power and culture before its decline, making it an important archaeological and historical site. Today, it is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
