Agulhas Current
The Agulhas Current is a powerful ocean current flowing southward along the east coast of southern Africa, mainly driven by the trade winds and the Earth's rotation. It transports warm, salty water from the Indian Ocean toward the southern Atlantic Ocean. This current is essential for regulating regional climate and influences the distribution of marine life. It also interacts with nearby currents, creating complex water movement patterns, including the shedding of large circular warm-water eddies called Agulhas rings. These phenomena help exchange heat and salt between oceans, impacting global climate patterns and marine ecosystems.
