Afrikaner nationalism

Afrikaner nationalism is a political and cultural movement among Afrikaners, the descended Dutch settlers in South Africa, emphasizing their identity, language, and heritage. It emerged in the early 20th century to promote the interests of Afrikaners, often associated with maintaining their cultural traditions and political influence. Historically, it also supported apartheid—a system of racial segregation—arguing it protected their community. Today, Afrikaner nationalism focuses on preserving language and culture but has less political prominence. It reflects a desire to maintain a distinct identity within South Africa’s diverse society.
