Afghan National Unity Government
The Afghan National Unity Government (NUG) was formed in 2014 to bring together rival political factions in Afghanistan following a disputed presidential election. It consisted of President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, aiming to foster cooperation and stability in a country facing ongoing conflict and challenges. The NUG sought to improve governance, address corruption, and promote economic development while negotiating peace efforts with the Taliban and managing international relations. However, its effectiveness was often hindered by political divisions, security issues, and socio-economic struggles, culminating in its collapse in 2021 with the Taliban's return to power.
