Adwa

The Battle of Adwa, fought on March 1, 1896, was a decisive confrontation between Ethiopian forces and Italian invaders. Ethiopia, under Emperor Menelik II, successfully resisted Italy’s attempt to colonize the country, reaffirming its sovereignty. This victory is significant because it was one of the few times an African nation defeated a European colonial army during the colonial era. It boosted African pride, preserved Ethiopia’s independence, and inspired anti-colonial movements worldwide, symbolizing resistance against imperialism and the importance of unity and strategic leadership in overcoming colonial threats.
