Adnan Menderes

Adnan Menderes was a Turkish politician who served as Prime Minister from 1950 to 1960. He led the Democrat Party and was known for promoting economic development, political liberalization, and close ties with the West, especially during the Cold War. His government encouraged private enterprise and expanded infrastructure. However, his rule faced criticism for increasing authoritarian tendencies and social inequalities. In 1960, he was overthrown in a military coup, tried for alleged corruption, and executed in 1961. Today, he is remembered as a symbol of democratization efforts and is regarded as a significant figure in Turkey's 20th-century history.
