Acute monocytic leukemia
Acute monocytic leukemia (AML-M5) is a fast-growing type of blood cancer where abnormal monocyte cells, a type of white blood cell involved in immune response, multiply uncontrollably in the bone marrow. These abnormal cells prevent the production of healthy blood cells, leading to symptoms like anemia, infections, and easy bruising or bleeding. It typically requires prompt treatment such as chemotherapy and sometimes stem cell transplants. The disease mainly affects adults and progresses quickly, making early diagnosis and intervention crucial for better outcomes.
