Acromioclavicular Joint

The acromioclavicular (AC) joint is where the collarbone (clavicle) meets the highest point of the shoulder blade (acromion). It allows for a range of shoulder movements and provides stability to the shoulder area. The joint is supported by ligaments that hold the bones together and enable smooth motion. Injuries to the AC joint, such as sprains or separations, are common in contact sports or falls. These injuries can cause pain, swelling, or limited shoulder movement. Treatment varies based on severity and can range from rest and physical therapy to surgical repair in more severe cases.
