Acids and Bases in Chemistry
Acids and bases are two types of substances that affect how other materials behave, especially in water. Acids release hydrogen ions (H⁺) and tend to taste sour, like lemon juice, and can corrode metals. Bases release hydroxide ions (OH⁻), often feel slippery, and taste bitter, like soap. They react with each other in neutralization, forming water and a salt. Acids and bases are essential in many natural and industrial processes, and their strength depends on how completely they release these ions in solution.
