Abyssinia
Abyssinia is the historical name for what is now Ethiopia, a country located in the Horn of Africa. It historically refers to a region and a collection of kingdoms known for their rich culture, ancient history, and early adoption of Christianity. Abyssinia played a significant role in trade and was one of the few African nations to resist colonization during the Scramble for Africa, maintaining its sovereignty except for a brief Italian occupation. Today, Ethiopia is recognized for its diverse culture, languages, and landscapes, as well as being the site of ancient civilizations like Axum and the origin of coffee.
