Abuja MoU

The Abuja Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is an agreement among African countries to enhance maritime safety and protect the marine environment. It focuses on Port State Control, which allows a country to inspect foreign ships in its ports to ensure they comply with international safety and environmental standards. By working together, member countries aim to improve their enforcement of maritime regulations, reduce the risks of accidents and pollution, and promote safer shipping practices in West and Central Africa. This collaboration helps protect both seafarers and coastal communities.
