Abd al-Rahman al-Sufi
Abd al-Rahman al-Sufi, also known as Abd al-Rahman al-Sufi al-Shirazi, was a prominent 10th-century Persian astronomer and mathematician. He is best known for his work "Book of Fixed Stars," which provided detailed descriptions and illustrations of stars and constellations. Al-Sufi improved the understanding of celestial bodies and contributed significantly to Islamic astronomy. His observations and detailed star maps were influential in both the Islamic world and later in Europe. Al-Sufi's blend of ancient Greek knowledge and his own observations laid groundwork for future astronomical studies.
