9/11 Terror Attacks

The 9/11 terror attacks occurred on September 11, 2001, when 19 militants from the extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial airplanes. Two planes were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, causing the towers to collapse. A third plane struck the Pentagon, the U.S. military headquarters in Washington, D.C. The fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, crashed in Pennsylvania after passengers tried to overcome the hijackers. Nearly 3,000 people died, marking one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in history and leading to significant changes in U.S. security and foreign policy.
