3 May Constitution
The 3 May Constitution, enacted in 1791 in Poland, was one of the world's first modern constitutions. It aimed to reform the country's political system by reducing government corruption, strengthening royal authority, and promoting equality among noble classes. The constitution also sought to modernize laws and improve the country's ability to defend itself. It was a progressive step towards constitutional monarchy and legal reforms, but faced opposition from neighboring powers and aristocratic groups. Despite its short-lived success, it is remembered as a significant effort to modernize and strengthen Poland's governance structure.
