26th of July Movement (Cuba)
The 26th of July Movement was a revolutionary organization led by Fidel Castro that aimed to overthrow Cuba’s authoritarian government in the late 1950s. Named after the failed attack on the Moncada Barracks on July 26, 1953, it fostered guerrilla warfare and political activism. Over time, it gained widespread support, organized a popular uprising, and succeeded in ousting the dictator Fulgencio Batista in 1959. The movement’s victory led to the establishment of a socialist government in Cuba. It is considered a pivotal event in Cuba’s history, symbolizing resistance and the push for social and political change.
