22nd Dynasty

The 22nd Dynasty, part of Egypt’s Third Intermediate Period (around 945–730 BCE), was marked by a period of political fragmentation and decentralization. It was founded by Sheshonq I, a Libyan chieftain who became Pharaoh. This dynasty saw Libyan rulers establishing control over Egypt, blending their customs with Egyptian traditions. While maintaining the appearance of unified rule, many regions operated with a degree of independence. The period is characterized by a decline in central authority, with various local rulers and priests gaining influence, ultimately setting the stage for future internal struggles and foreign interventions.
