1st AIF

The 1st Australian Imperial Force (AIF) was Australia's main volunteer army during World War I, formed in 1914 after Australia's declaration of war. Composed of trained soldiers, it was Australia's primary fighting force on the Western Front and other battlefields. The AIF played a significant role in major battles like Gallipoli and the Somme, helping to establish Australia's reputation as a formidable military nation. It was separate from Australia's later military forces and was disbanded in 1919 after the war ended. The AIF is often remembered for its valor, sacrifices, and contributions to Australia's national identity.
