1973 Paris Peace Accords

The 1973 Paris Peace Accords were agreements aimed at ending the Vietnam War. They were signed by the United States, North Vietnam, South Vietnam, and the Viet Cong. The accords called for a ceasefire, U.S. troop withdrawal, and the division of Vietnam at the 17th parallel, with plans for future elections. The goal was to bring peace and allow South Vietnam to govern itself without foreign interference. While the accords temporarily stopped the fighting, they did not resolve all tensions, and conflict in Vietnam continued afterward.
