1959 Cuban Revolution

The 1959 Cuban Revolution was a change in government where revolutionary leaders, led by Fidel Castro, overthrew Cuba's dictator, Fulgencio Batista. The movement grew from widespread dissatisfaction with corruption, inequality, and poverty. After two years of guerrilla warfare and activism, the rebels succeeded in January 1959. The new government aimed to nationalize industries, improve healthcare and education, and reduce American influence in Cuba. It marked a significant shift toward socialism and set the stage for Cold War tensions between Cuba and the United States.
