1944 Polish uprising

The 1944 Polish uprising, known as the Warsaw Uprising, was a major attempt by Polish resistance fighters to liberate Warsaw from Nazi occupation during World War II. Begun on August 1, 1944, and lasting 63 days, it aimed to free the city before the advancing Soviet forces arrived, hoping to establish Polish sovereignty. However, the uprising faced overwhelming German military response and limited support from the Soviet Red Army, which was nearby but did not actively assist. The uprising resulted in extensive destruction and loss of life, but symbolized Polish patriotism and the struggle for independence.
